Everyone knows that a healthy diet is a crucial part of weight loss. Starting out on a fitness journey may seem simple at first, but it’s not. You have to know how many calories you need to remove from your diet, what foods you should be consuming, what foods you shouldn’t be consuming, and last but not least, proper food preparation. In this article I will list several beneficial tips when preparing low fat meals.

 

  1. Whenever you are dealing with meat, be sure to trim all visible fat. As far as poultry is concerned, always remove the skin. Preparation of meat is rather simple. You have numerous choices, such as baking, broiling or grilling. Whichever of these approaches you choose, you must be certain that the rack allows the fat to drip down.
  2. When eating soups, stews and gravies, you should always refrigerate them prior to consumption so that you can easily remove the hardened fat.
  3. When making a side dish, such as grilled veggies, instead of using butter, cheese, or cream based sauces, you should use lemon juice and various herbs and spices.
  4. When making a baked potato, you should always skip whole milk sour cream and go with low fat or nonfat yogurt with chives. Believe it or not, reduced fat sour cream still contains fat!
  5. Always substitute refined grains with whole grains. Everything from pasta to other baked goods can be purchased in whole grain form.
  6. Remember fresh ingredients are always the best.
